Leatherhood made of thick leather from moose.

                         Leatherhood

I just want to show my pretty thick leather hood which is made of two layers of leather from moose. Each layer is about 2mm thick, so the leather in this hood is 4 millimeters thick in total.
The outer leather is fairly hard and not so soft as the inner leather.
I always use leathers linning which makes fantastic feeling at your skin.

Here you can see the thickness of the two layers.

As you can see there are a big different between the surface of the two leathers.
The outer leather likes more leather from a shoe and have a pretty glossy surface. Inside the leather likes more a glove and and are very soft and stretchable.

To sew this thick leather together is of course not so easy as I usual do, like clamp the leather together and sew.
To make this hood I sew the edges to edges by Z-stiches as you can see here.

It makes the hood like a solid leather encasement perfect shaped for my head.
This pattern is 20 years old and modified many many times to get absolutely perfect fit. And of course the leather stretches to fit like a shoe.

To wear this hood is a fantastic feeling, it has after many times of use got the shape of my hard or is my head shaped after this hood ;-)
Its so comfortable to wear as you don't feel it´s on your head but in same time the your feeling is total isolated in leather.

Thank you for reading.

  1. Nice work, Soren - this looks really incredible. I wish I could do the zig-zag stitch, as it can really help with the stretchy leather... Does it lace up in the back? Another question: Do you glue the 2 layers together anywhere?

    1. Thank you.
Well, I glue the two layers together before i cut out the exactly the shape of pattern.
I have to trim off the sewing excess from the pattern, so the pieces are exactly the size where the stitches normally are.
Acctually I have used my wifes sewingmachine to do this hood. ( I didn't ask before)
It's was a hard work for the machine but this leather are pretty easy to sew into even the thickness of leather in this hood.
This hood has a zipper at rear and a zipper around the neck to fit my leathersuit.
I do have a couple of these hoods with lace up at back and one of these I have sewn together with a neckcorset, when I wear that hood it's impossible to move my head at all.
You are welcome with questions, I hope you understand my english writing;-)
      All the best.
