My passion for leather

My fetish to leather is total, and therefore I will show some of my favorite leathers.

Leather is natural material, but when it made in tanneries in Asia it's might not so good for the nature.

It's difficult to explain how I like the feeling to touch the leather.
I like then the leather feels in some way a little bit wet on the surface, little bit like rubber feeling. It should also be soft and nice to touch.
I don't likes when it feels little to dry and feels stiff.
Not to forget is the smell of leather.

Leather touches all my senses, My eyes, My nose, My ear, My skin, My taste.
Well my taste may be not, let's say I have big taste for leather
However it's my personal feeling to leather.

I start with a leather from pig which is pretty stiff and have a rough surface and not glossy, it's also a sheap leather. It's not so flexible as the others. Thickness around 0,6-0,8 mm. The surface is not so beautiful in my opinion.

Pig leather

Next out is my absolutely favorite, Leather from goat.
This leather have all what I wish, thickness, nice surface to touch, flexible and so on.
The thickness is around 0,7-1,2 mm
Goat leather

Here comes some nice pictures of goat skin in some colors.

Goat leather

Red goat leather

I have to show you my thick leather from moose, this leather is 2 mm thick and more like leather in a pair of shoes, it has a little bit of glossy surface and stiff to bend.
This leather is the outer shell of my thick leatherhood.
This leather smells absolutely fantastic.
Moose leather

Next one is also from moose but totally different, this one have the same thickness but it's very soft and stretchable. The surface it more rough and not so glossy but it's fantastic to touch.
This leather I have as linning inside my heavy leatherhoods.
moose leather

Poor moose, some bites and scratches.

I have also some hides from deer, it's likes moose but it little bit thinner, 1-1,4 mm and a bit glossier.
This leather are extremely soft and comfortable to work with and have a real leather smell+++
These hides are pretty small, may be 4 sqf. and often with bulletholes after hunting.
Deer leather

Hides from cow can varies a lot depending the use of the hides.
These hides I have is made for some clothes and some furnitures so it's soft and nice at surfaces and the thickness is 1,1-1,3 mm, and it's pretty heavy and compact structure.
The surface is little bit glossy and very soft.
These hide are very large about 4-5 sq meters.
Cow leather

Leather from lamb is the most soft leather, therefore it's uses to make clothes.
It's thin and light in weight so it's comfortable to wear.
Thickness is only 0,4-0,7 mm and you can find all sorts of surfaces and colors.
I have one favorite and it's very glossy and thin.
I use to have this as linning inside my leatherstuff.
 Glossy lamb leather

Lamb leather

Next leather is also from lamb but the surface is more  rough, not so much as the goatskin but not so thick either, it's about 0,6-0,8 mm.
This leather is extremely soft and stretchable so it can be difficult to sew as it's so flexible.

Isn't leather beautiful to rest your eyes at??
I hope some of you out there share my passion for leather and enjoyed my leather page.

Passion for LEATHER HOODS

This is my version of the pattern for a leather hood.
This pattern is about 20 years old and modified quite a lot of times to fit my head perfectly.

Hood pattern
Here is the results of the hood made in moose skin, with lacing at back.
Two hoods
inside
Leather thickness is about 4 mm makes it very solid to wear, and of course very comfortable. It's like an extra shell.

Leatherhood made of thick leather from moose.

                         Leatherhood

I just want to show my pretty thick leather hood which is made of two layers of leather from moose. Each layer is about 2mm thick, so the leather in this hood is 4 millimeters thick in total.
The outer leather is fairly hard and not so soft as the inner leather.
I always use leathers linning which makes fantastic feeling at your skin.

Here you can see the thickness of the two layers.

As you can see there are a big different between the surface of the two leathers.
The outer leather likes more leather from a shoe and have a pretty glossy surface. Inside the leather likes more a glove and and are very soft and stretchable.

To sew this thick leather together is of course not so easy as I usual do, like clamp the leather together and sew.
To make this hood I sew the edges to edges by Z-stiches as you can see here.

It makes the hood like a solid leather encasement perfect shaped for my head.
This pattern is 20 years old and modified many many times to get absolutely perfect fit. And of course the leather stretches to fit like a shoe.

To wear this hood is a fantastic feeling, it has after many times of use got the shape of my hard or is my head shaped after this hood ;-)
Its so comfortable to wear as you don't feel it´s on your head but in same time the your feeling is total isolated in leather.

Thank you for reading.

I have seen the pattern of a hood at Fetishleather crafter blog.
Now it´s time to make a hood after his pattern.
First I had to make it right scale and I found out it will be 240% larger t get in right size.

I had a old leathercoat wich I cutted out the pieces.

                                                        5 pcs ready for sewingmachine.

Backpiece is reday.

The front is ready for the glue.

The front and back is coming thogher.
At the end it came out perfect.

After about two hours work it came out a realy perfect hood with excellent fittness of my head.
I can realy recomend this pattern for make a hood.
Thank you Christopherfor the pattern.

Leather straightjacket with attached hood.

I have planned for a long time to make a light and easy to be put on leather straightjacket with a mounted leatherhood and now I have started.
I have bought a regular leatherjacket made for a woman wich makes a pretty tight fit.
It´s made of 0,8 mm goatskin and this is my favorite leather as its very comfortable and soft to wear.
It can be a little bit tricky to sew as it very strong.
Here is a few of my leathercoats to be modified to some of my projects.

Here I cut the back of the jacket to fit the zipper.

Here I have cutted up the front of the jacket to fit a stretchy part made of leather

First I will make leather hood, as always I make linning made of leather with the glossy side inwards.

The hood is finished and will fit perfect to this projekt.
, My camera fails so there be more pictures soon.
